It was the first Earth Day, 1970, on the playground at a small school in a small town in the Midwest. My 3rd grade classmates and I spent our recess picking up trash to celebrate that day. I have been a teacher for 20 years and each and every day I have my students celebrate Earth Day by following the adage, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
