This book gives a fairly detailed history of bilingual, multicultural and ESL education in America, including the politics and theories behind it. One pitfall of the book is that it is obviously written from a liberal Democratic point of view - fine and even humorous at times if you're a Democrat, but I imagine faithful Republicans would find parts of the book to be one-sided and disagreeable. Overall, though, the book is an easy read and really expanded my knowledge of the bilingual education debate in America.
