The exciting new sixth edition of "Electric Machinery" has been extensively updated while retaining the emphasis on fundamental principles and physical understanding that has been the outstanding feature of this classic book. This book covers fundamental concepts in detail as well as advanced topics for readers who wish to cover the material in more depth. Several new chapters have been added, including a chapter on power electronics, as well as one on speed and torque control of dc and ac motors. This edition has also been expanded with additional examples and practice problems. The use of MATLAB has been introduced to the new edition, both in examples within the text as well as in the chapter problems.
Probably the best book for Electric Machinery Fundamentals

I gave it 5 stars because the book delivers. You will have a good fundamental understanding of electric machinery after reading this (from an engineers standpoint I mean - if you're not an engineer or physicist, this probably will be way more than you can handle). Good problems in the book also for practice (although it would be a lot better if they made the solutions available?!? Not sure why they wouldn't do this. I mean we are trying to learn right?) FYI - You will need to supplement this book, especially for 3-phase and 1-phase induction motors, because the material just isn't explained/diagrammed out as well as it needs to be to get a FULL fundamental understanding. There are steps that are skipped and/or not covered in the detail I'd like. I have lots of questions that weren't explained/answered, and some stuff I can't see from the authors' logic how it could be so. I do think the synchronous machines chapter was excellent, but still had to scratch my head for a while on a few things. All in all though, I think the book is very good and would recommend it to any engineer trying to understand electric machinery. You're not going to come out of this book ready to design a synchronous generator or induction motor, but YOU WILL be ready for the next step in learning about them and understanding power systems.
Classic introductory text to electrical machines

This served as one of the additional texts for my electrical machines class in my undergraduate course. If you want to get a solid foundation into the workings of machines or are interested in robotics or mechatronics, read the book. Also, a good casual desktop reference for the practicing electrical engineer.
An excellent introduction and reference for the theory and fundamentals
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
This is a text book for engineers (electrical and mechancial primarily) to learn about various kinds of electric machines and their fundamental theories of operation and design. This is one of the best of those books and not meant to be one that is picked up by the casual "tinker" or even an engineer looking for a quick application guide to DC motors. This is a thorough text book on these devices for those who need to engineer for design objectives.
Complete without being difficult

This book may be considered a reference in the study of electric machines, because it brings the main aspects of electromechanical energy conversion devices without being difficult to understand. Its way for explaining the relations of power/current/torque in induction machines is the best one I've seen in any book.
Electric machinery easy at high level

The most powerfull book in Electric Machinery for the beginners and experts, at the same level of complexity (it's hard to read but it's very interesting in the way of presenting the contents...), requires some background in theory of electrical circuits and systems
