Sadly, Elli's book goes where Anne Frank's diary did not

Elli's story parallels Anne Frank's in some ways. In the spring of 1944, Elli and her Hungarian family still knew freedom. Elli was thirteen, with the typical crushes on boys we all remember from that age. Then the S.S. came and Elli, with her blonde braids, escaped the gas chamber only to become slave labor for the Third Reich. How Elli ever summoned the courage to write this book is a miracle in itself. Elli witnessed and lived atrocities and cruelties beyond what I've read in any other book on the Holocaust. That she somehow gathered herself together enough (at a much later age) to dredge up and share these memories with the world is a sheer act of bravery and love. This book is definitely not light bed-time reading. Don't read it if you don't like "depressing" books. Apart from other emotions, such as heartbreak and anger, by the time you finish the book you may also feel some of the emptiness and numbness that the survivors of Auschwitz and Dachau must have felt.
An amazing and emotional true story

What a remarkable story... So difficult to comprehend the hurt and pain that this woman has suffered, emotionally and physically - how much we really can and do take our lives for granted. An emotional and capturing story which will touch your heart and soul and will stay in your thoughts and heart forever.
Wonderful book

This memoir is so uplifting. If you are feeling a bit low and a bit sorry for yourself, I suggest you read ELLI. Then you can count your blessings. It makes you wonder how someone can live through such horror and still come through.
