Though he never intended it, Dwayne Green became your typical wizard school drop-out when he found love with Marcia. He made a life with her running a potions shop in a small town. But recently Dwayne has discovered that Marcia doesn't love him anymore. There were all the usual signs like not wanting him to be around her friends, not being appreciative of how he helps her, and trying to turn him into a zombie to be part of her undead army.

Heartbroken, Dwayne finds himself aimless and needing to be de-zombified. While being treated for his zombie condition, he meets Zina, a former oracle recovering from precognition addiction. Dwayne and Zina become friends and as when Dwayne is discharged, Zina gives a magic ring she says will help him find true love.
