Leroy Brown is back in the next six books in the Encyclopedia Brown series. As Idaville's ten-year-old star detective, Encyclopedia has an uncanny knack for trivia. With his unconventional knowledge, he solves mysteries for the neighborhood kids through his own detective agency. But his dad also happens to be the chief of the Idaville police department, and every night around the dinner table, Encyclopedia helps him solve some of the most baffling crimes. With ten confounding mysteries in each book, not only does Encyclopedia have a chance to solve them, but readers are given all the clues as well and can chime in with their own solutions. Interactive and fun--it's classic Encyclopedia Brown!
More than 8 mysteries in the book. Ages 8 and up. It's great to see boys depicted as smart and capable.
Look in the back of the book for answers to the mysteries, if you can't figure out how Leroy, aka, Encyclopedia Brown, solved each one.
The first mystery is usually Leroy helping his dad, the police investigator, with a crime mystery, then the rest are neighborhood mysteries. The police mysteries are real life, so be aware that they might entail theft, kidnapping, crime on a straighforward level, but not explicit or graphic. The rest are neighborhood ones that are easier to discuss or have the child read on their own. These are great logic and observation puzzles.

I couldn't be happier about the effect this series has had on my daughter. She is so excited about reading each new one that arrives in the mail. This increased interest in reading has now spilled over to lots of of books.
Fun, Readable, Inspiring

The Encyclopedia Brown series is an excellent way to encourage youngsters to read critically, think, and have fun doing it. In this example, as in others, Leroy (Encyclopedia) Brown and his friend Sally run a youthful detective agency in Idaville, matching withs with Bugs Meany, the Lions, and other juvenile wrong-doers. The cases involve theft of fruit wagons, and other minor (and sometimes un-minor) crimes. Each mystery is concise and easiy read, but some are easier than others to solve. I read this book as a kid and often failed to find the answers; as an adult most are solveable, but once or twice I had to peak at the solutions in the back pages. This is excellent reading for youngsters and young mystery fans.

I loved 2 Minute Mysteries when I was a child and now my daughter loves the same type of mysteries in Encyclopedia Brown and the 5 Minute Mysteries. They are fun in the car.
