ENGLISH DESCRIPTIONThis is Samantha Flores' autobiography, a Mexican trans activist, born in 1932 in Orizaba, Veracruz. She is the founder of Laetus Vitae, the first completely free day shelter in Mexico City, and in Latin America, for elderly LGBTQ+ people. Baptized as Vicente Aurelio, Samantha navigates the paths of masculinity, where missteps and deceptions are frequent: an effeminate, sensitive boy, seduced at the age of twelve by the athletic and masculine David, who promises him eternal love. At nineteen, she leaves Orizaba to emancipate and liberate herself in Mexico City. After finishing her studies in hotel management, she works as a receptionist in various hotels, but Samantha is drawn to the world of entertainment and nightlife. She frequents trendy bars and nightclubs where diverse desires and erotica thrive. There, she meets several actresses, among them the famous X chitl, Queen of the Night, thanks to whom Vicente begins to transform into Samantha in the 1960s, when the term "transgender" did not yet exist. This autobiography is a collaborative work. Antoine Rodr guez served as engineer by recording Samantha's oral account, editing it, and faithfully rendering it with the autobiographer's unique lexicon, metrics, and poetic rhythm. The epilogue reflects on Samantha's process of subjectiveness and offers a genealogy of theories regarding trans identities. This autobiography is the first Latin American text by a trans woman over the age of ninety.
