Designed for adults with limited learning time, this concise and easy-to-use guide enables language students to grasp the fundamentals of Russian quickly and easily. Focusing on the grammar needed to speak and understand the language, the text emphasizes comprehension rather than memorization of grammatical constructions. Author Brian Kemple uses an efficient and systematic approach to instructing students in the use of all the grammar that's needed for everyday speech and comprehension. Simple phrases are accompanied by clear explanations of parts of speech, use of the comparative and superlative degrees, word order, pronunciation, negation and more. A useful section of practical phrases and a glossary of grammatical terms round out this excellent, inexpensive guide. Perfect for independent study or as an adjunct to a language course, Essential Russian Grammar is ideal for students, business people, tourists or anyone planning to visit Russia.
Absolutely amazing guide for all Russian learners!

I should probably preface this by saying that I am from Russia. As a kid, I spoke Russian, but when I moved to the United States, I quickly fell out of practice over the years about the more advanced grammar topics. This book is the perfect refresher for me! I've never felt like my Russian was better! This book is incredibly concise and informative. I cannot stress the perfection of this enough. For all of you Russian learners out there, even if you are not from Russia, I highly recommend this book!
You are stupid if you don't buy it

I wish I had discovered this little guide earlier; it would have saved so much work. Intended as study aid & reference, it excels at precisely that. Deceptively slim, it packs all the essentials in an accessible form. The section on propositions (which are used very idiomatically in Russian) demystifies with hand-slapping-forehead clarity. Similarly for (im)perfective verb moods. And it is nice to have declension & conjugation tables handy without having to carry a full-sized textbook. My only complaint: make it pocket size!
Good review

I'm already fluent in russian, and I am using this book as a review. It is an excellent book for this purpose, however, I think they might have expounded on motion verbs a little more, as this is a VERY hard concept for english speakers, as well as a very important one.
this book rocks!

As a 3rd year Russian major who slacked off & didn't study over the summer, I found this book perfect for quickly relearning everything I'd forgotten.
Best Book for Russian

This is simply the best book I've found, and there have been many. Also, it is small. And concise. I keep giving my copies away to Russian instructors who use it also. I am an intermediate level student and have been living in Russian for 3 years. I wish I had found this sooner.
small and to the point

I recommend this book to anyone confused by perfective/imperfective, cases and usage of some of the more obscure participle not commonly used in English. It is excellent, concise and a great supplement to your textbook. It will give you many "ah-ha!" experiences as you finally realize what other sources are trying to tell you.
