I used this book for my 'Writing, Research and Technology" class. These are bonafide crime scene photographs taken by the NYPD at the turn of the century. Although they are graphically disturbing it's also a fascinating study of life halted abruptly.

Wow. Santé's book is one of those that you are afraid to look at, but you can't help yourself. The photos, sparsely captioned, are haunting in their silence, capturing the aftermath of the ultimate rage. If you are strong enough, I recommend this one with all 5 stars.

Plenty of photos accompanied by only the necessary amount of writing. The photos themselves were haunting, beautiful, alarming, mysterious. All of the photos have notation on them in the back of the book, so that information does not disrupt the viewer's intake of the image itself and the weight of death, yet it's available when ready. Beware - if you want in-depth and closure on each case, this isn't really the book for you.
