Books in the John Phillips Commentary Series are designed to provide pastors, Sunday school teachers, and students of the Scripture with doctrinally sound interpretation that emphasizes the practical application of Bible truth. Working from the familiar King James Version, Dr. Phillips not only provides helpful commentary on the text, but also includes detailed outlines and numerous illustrations and quotations. Anyone wanting to explore the meaning of God's Word in greater depth--for personal spiritual growth or as a resource for preaching and teaching--will welcome the guidance and insights of this respected series.
The John Phillips Commentary Series presents the accumulation of a lifetime achievement from this gifted man of God. His association with Dr. Stephen F. Olford and Dr. Jerry Vines substantiates his high view of Holy Scripture. His affiliation with the Moody Bible Institute further illustrates his attestation of Biblical inerrancy. His application of the Bible text demonstrates his strategic grasp of God's Word. His alliteration will endear him to preachers and teachers everywhere. I wholeheartedly recommend it! --Dr. Franklin L. Kirksey, Pastor, Teacher, Mentor, Writer, Author of Sound Biblical Preaching: Giving the Bible a Voice
Very Readable, great as a teacher's guide

John Phillips writes in a speaking voice and allows you to tie all the ends together with the picture He paints. Good at application but not preachy, solidly biblical with enough backround to set the stage for the passage without the reader becoming so bogged down that they loose sight of the end. If you like Phillips you will want this edition. The original Moody press material has been reprinted from when Loizeaux Brothers held the copyright, it is now published by Kregel with a wonderful new color hard back binding (no dust jacket) with very good paper and type.
A Helpful Tool for the Christian's Toolbelt

Whether you speak of the Gospel records, the Pentateuch, the Pastoral Epistles, or even the Historical Books of the Old Testament; most people would say that the Minor Prophets (Hosea--Malachi) is the section of the Bible that they are least familiar with. The Lord has blessed Dr. Phillips in a great way to take complicated things and put them down to the bottom shelf where most everyone can understand. This book is a great tool, whether you are a pastor or layman. I recomend highly this and all the other "Exploring" commentaries by Dr. John Phillips.
