Faith and Disability: The Struggles and Triumphs of a Modern Job

Faith and Disability: The Struggles and Triumphs of a Modern Job, is primarily a conversation with people who have chronic pain and disabilities. Whether they are physical, mental, developmental, or even disabilities others cannot see, this book will speak to you. Faith and Disability explores some aspects of the life of Job, along with many other biblical thoughts, to support, encourage, and help those with disabilities cry a little, laugh a little, and find healing in Jesus Christ. Unlike many books that are written for those with physical and mental disabilities, this book explores some new ground. It begins with a call to lament and mourn. Many people with disabilities in the church have been duped into believing that suffering in silence is required by God and that if they show their pain, or distress, they are showing a lack of faith. This book shows from God's Word that it is ok to cry and mourn what you have lost. Its ok even to shout at God and even to sometimes be angry with God. God can handle it! After working through a lot of the emotions that people with disabilities can feel; Faith and Disability speaks about how to find a path out to become the person God calls you to be. The challenge at the end of the book expresses the concern and love God has for you and the rest of His children who are suffering and sometimes limited by disabilities and chronic pain. The book is not a biography of the biblical Job but is a roadmap through scripture for the Modern Job to follow. Like Job, David, and even Jesus, we can weep and shout to God when things hurt us or don't make sense. But we then know we can turn to Him, not necessarily for physical healing alone, but also for the mental and spiritual healing necessary to live a joyful life with chronic pain and/or disabilities. This is a deeply personal, yet deeply scriptural book. NOTICE: This is a re-release of "Why Not Me?" not a new book by Dr. Hassertt
