Farm Boy is the extraordinary sequel to the beloved modern classic, War Horse."There was an old green Fordson tractor in the back of Grandpa's barn, always covered in cornsacks. When I was very... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The sequel to War Horse, Farm Boy visits the same family however tells a very different story. Told this time from the perspective of a boy (the great-grandson of Albert), rather than a horse, the plot this time is about life on the farm and the legacy of farming in the boy's family. The boy (never named) is close to his grandfather, Albert's son. Grandfather tells stories about his past, but has always held back whatever it is that makes him melancholy from time to time. One day, on the boy's last summer of childhood before setting off into the world to make his way, Grandfather opens up about the secrets he's kept all these years. This sets off a summer that cements the bond between the young and the old and offers the boy a new perspective on his future.
Morpurgo is able to continue the lasting legacy of Albert and Joey through the stories of Albert's descendants. It's nice to hear about the conclusion to Albert and Joey's story, but the story of Grandfather and his grandson is also touching. The black and white illustrations were lovely. I thought this was a really sweet story about connecting generations and exploring one's roots.
