The ultimate book on health and fitness - for all levels
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 15 years ago
This book is easy to read, with fascinating scientific research on the benefits of exercise (a great motivator). The authors also provide an easy-to-follow guide to get you on track with your own exercise regimen. I tend to get stuck doing the one thing I'm good at (running and biking). The book provides a framework for a more balanced fitness routine, describing the benefits of not only cardiovascular work, but strength and flexibility. They provide self-tests to assess your own level of fitness, then provide a training schedule depending on your results. It's worked for me - I've already seen progress. Instead of my same old rut, I've incorporated the suggested cross-training techniques and rest days, and my body does feel better. It's a bargain; personalized advice from an Olympic athlete and a world-class sports physician, presented in an accessible format by a great writer and editor.
Going for the Gold!

Faster, better, stronger- was truly an enjoyable read. I remember seeing Dr Heiden competing in the winter Olympics and amazed at his physical condition back then. He was a head of his time in training for his sport and now you too can train like an Olympic athlete. Along with Dr Testa the reader is given a detail program to follow to improve their health and shape.
faster, better, stronger - made me smarter!

The fact this is the second book I have read in the last 20 years either disqualifies me as being able to review a book based on quantity - or - says that every other book I have tried to read over the years has bored me silly. This book explains things easily and simply and motivates me completely. I've implemented what Eric states and its made a huge difference in my health and fitness. Nuf said...
control my entry

This volume gave me the perspective to better control how I re-enter the world of fitness. At 65 I found myself trying to perform at the levels that I did when I was much younger. This book gave me a much improved perspective toward both my diet and the pace I should be building from. Thank you.
A Faster, Better Housewife

Anyone who knows me would tell you I am not an elite athlete. And that is why Faster, Better Stronger is such an amazing book. Not only are the techniques laid out in the book effective for serious athletes, they are FABULOUS for me too! I have learned about varying the type and intensity of my work outs on alternating days - aerobic one day, flexibility and strength training another. I have also learned about eating for protein/carb balance. The book is very well written, taking highly technical research from two medical professionals and synthesizing all that physiology jargon into a readable format. The writer, Deanne Musolf, did an excellent job. Don't let the size of the thing scare you. Yes, it's a real bicep curler (I lift with it sometimes) but it's so fun to read that it flies by. And so will you, on a road bike, after learning a few great tips from the pros. I LOVE this book!
