most excellent book

how often do you find a great devotion and coffee-table book in one? the cover caught my attention and i started flipping through this book to look at the (fabulous) pictures. before long i found myself reading the insightful, surprisingly personal questions and great scripture excerpts. i've really enjoyed dwelling in the devotions and i look forward to more books by these authors.

This 40 day devotional gives the feeling of talking over a milkshake with your average Joe Christian about the various fears we face in life. Fear is undoubtedly going to come up as we follow God, thus it is nice to be refreshed by God's Word, trusted commentary and visual worship. Tom and Virginia explore the various fears people faced throughout the Scriptures and help us to remember that even though we feel helpless and fearful, we have an amazing God that shows up when we take steps of faith and obey him. Pick this one up...it'll do ya good.

Tom Stephen and Virginia Starkey have managed to avoid much Christian cliché and instead challenge readers to engage God while also looking into their lives on a daily basis. Written in an intelligent yet down to earth style alongside brilliant and inspiring imagery, this team has created a daily devotional that goes beyond a "read, pray and get on with your life" format. Fearless will encourage readers from pre-teen to adult to explore the depth of God's love for them, address the fears and insecurities of their lives in a healthy way and help establish a habit of spending time alone with God on a regular basis. Fearless is highly recommended as a tremendous devotional that is relevant to multiple generations and will inspire readers at all levels of belief to go deeper in their walk with God.

Fearless is a treasure of wisdom and insight into God's work in our lives. Without trivializing our fears, it helps put them into perspective in light of God's plan and providence. With wonderful examples from Scripture and life, the reader is given some peace about many of the common fears and worries that we all have. This book could be used as a daily devotional, or as a small group study, or in an adult or youth education class. The questions are thought-provoking and can lead to great discussion in a group. It could also be a good introduction or re-introduction to the ways of God, for someone who has not studied the Bible recently. The amazing photographs of surf and other nature scenes are a bonus, and a reminder of the all-powerful Creator. For me, they were a calming point of focus. By spending a few minutes reading each morning, this book provides enough "food for thought" for the entire day!

This book represents two things that I love: Surf and God's word. Knowing Hank Foto (international surf photog) inspired me to try to combine these two loves for others. Fearless is the result of that effort. My hope was to create a new type of devotional book that uses intense photography alongside devotions with lots of scripture and a few questions for reflection. This book is designed for someone who wants to know God better. Anyone who loves the ocean and/or God's word will enjoy the experience of this work.
