Book Overview

In Europe and in the United States, there is a forty to fifty percent chance of illness from cancer at some time in one's life. So, what do you do if you are diagnosed with the disease? The harshness of orthodox treatments (surgery, radiation and chemotherapy) is well known. Such treatments are widespread, but the results are unimpressive. Faced with those options, informed patients increasingly seek alternative and complementary strategies to control and treat cancer. This book provides an overview of these options.

Jonathan Chamberlain saw his wife suffer and eventually die--both from her cancer and from the direct effects of the conventional treatments she underwent. His experience led to his search for other methods to overcome cancer. What he discovered stunned him. There are alternative cures available--dozens of them--many that offer excellent chances for recovery.

In Cancer Recovery Guide, Chamberlain presents fifteen direct and practical strategies for regaining one's health. The strategies are grouped into three families--those that relate to the mind and emotions (Did you know that stress causes cancers to become more aggressive?); those that address health of the whole body (Cancer cannot survive in a tissue environment that is truly healthy.); and those that focus on attacking cancerous tumors directly.

The personal stories cited throughout Cancer Recovery Guide testify to the possible therapeutic value of each strategy presented.

Truly a useful A to Z Handbook

A currently common definition of a cancer survivorship states that it extends from the discovery of cancer to the balance of life. Chamberlain extends the definition to include those who don't (yet?) have cancer. He follows with a thoroughly researched and readable discussion of cancer, conventional, alternative, and complementary therapies with a well annotated reference to resources and a bibliography for further discovery. The author works from the premise that an informed patient has a better prognosis but also cautions that only an informed patient is properly equipped to understand options and participate meaningfully in decisions regarding treatment.FIGHTING CANCER provides survivors and potential survivors with the means to become informed.
