Finding Atticus is a real jewel. The main character, Jaimie is a realistic middle school student; impulsive, caring, sensitive and all too human. She makes mistakes for an understandable reason. She evokes the reader's sympathy at the same time that she has us wanting to shake some sense into her. Throughout this fast-moving and suspenseful story you will be spellbound. Although events unwind quickly, and action escalates to the very end, the real treasure in this book is the masterful way the author has handled an important theme. The book's message about the importance of honesty and character is one that every teen and tween needs to hear, yet Finding Atticus presents the message simply and gently. This book has something for everyone. At the risk of sounding trite; it really is a must-read.

Laurie Gifford Adams has created a character (Jamie) that readers of every age will relate to and grow to love. Who hasn't experienced the awful feeling of making a mistake, or telling a lie, and then having to live with the consequences? This is the life lesson that Jamie, supported by family and friends, learns in this book, The tale of Jamie's adventures with her canine best friend is woven skillfully and caringly with characters who are multi-dimensional and real. I look forward to a sequel by this author.
