This is such a wonderful book, it changed my life when I first read it 20 years ago, when I was studying for me ceramic design degree. I have revisited the book since I have started teaching pottery to all age groups, the adults love a class based on the many techniques as an introduction to clay. It has a thorough outline on coloring clay and the design principles have etched into my life ever since I read it! To be able to think through a design challenge and think of the different ways of thinking. Pinch pots are the main building technique and then you can increase your building techniques by adding pieces of clay and coils. I love this book for the teaching in design, and decorating techniques. Just great.

This is an amazingly inspiring book. Almost using pottery as a meditation- mastering the techniques and also the soul side of creating vessels. I found Berensohn's view on things so refreshing..a real new way of looking at things. Lots of photographs, easy to follow and very much at eye-level. Most of the book is about pinch-pots which are vessels made only with the hands- no macheinery or wheel. He shows how this simple exercise can be the most revealing art of all. There is plenty of how-to. He even details a way to build a simple kiln out of easily found materials. He brings pottery out of the clouds, down to the common person, and makes it real both on an inner and outer level. Pottery as prayer. Opening our horizons as artists and people. Defenitely a keeper.
