i have read this book which i purchased with a different cover way back in 1987. i have read it about 3 times since and have enjoyed so it much i have kept it in my collection. if i don't care for a book i purchase it goes to the resale store fast. the whole book of 482 pages grips you and sends you on a journey of hardships and wonders of the oregon trail and the settling on land. the main character Fionna is a very strong woman who starts with nothing and leaves a legacy to her 4 children. you will enjoy the book.

Lana McGraw Boldt does her homework on this book. It takes place in the Pacific Northwest and is a fine example of historical fiction. The history was researched well and the reader is transported back into the period. A good book for the reader that likes his history in entertaining form.
