The creator of ZELDA AND IVY illustrates the fine art of being a good friend -- and still being yourself-in an engaging, amusing tale about appreciating differences. Frank likes the quiet life -- an afternoon sitting in his favorite armchair and playing the ukulele suits him just fine. Izzy, on the other hand, craves an adventure, as you might expect of a rabbit whose grandma sailed the seven seas with a parrot on her shoulder (well, maybe not the parrot part). It's no surprise that when Izzy suggests they sail to Crescent Island and camp out overnight, Frank is a tiny bit hesitant. But when Izzy agrees to tow along most of Frank's earthly possessions -- and Frank patches up an unexpected mishap on Izzy's part -- they both agree that odd couples can make great companions for sharing a wonderful summer's day.
A well-crafted story that is appropriate for any occassion

Frank and Izzy Set Sail is a charming story about a somewhat mismatched duo and their adventure away from home. One lives the calm life, preferring his ukulele and a comfortable chair; the other lives the adventurous life, preferring wind in her sail and waves at her bow. When Izzy drops by with an invitation for adventure, Frank grudgingly accepts. Packing enough provisions for massive expedition, Frank earns his sea legs and the two reach their destination: Crescent Island. A somewhat spooky night at the campsite teaches Frank and Izzy an important lesson: they can rely on each other, and in doing so, they end up enjoying their camping adventure to the fullest-Frank even navigates the boat home. With these two, it seems that even a mismatched pair can become the best of friends. Although the illustrations in this story are rather simple, some with shifting centers of focus and multiple panels per page (in a way, like a comic book), the strength of this story is by far in the dialogue. Laura McGee Kvasnosky creates a pair of characters that converse realistically, in a way that a younger audience will easily grasp-and take to heart. Frank and Izzy share witty and entertaining dialogue in a very human way. Frank and Izzy Set Sail is a story that is uplifting, entertaining, and appropriate for any occasion. Teachers will even find teachable moments ranging from the musical (Frank's ukulele) to the nautical (Izzy's jibe and rudder). Young readers even have a strong female role in Izzy. This book will definitely leave youngsters of early elementary age both dreaming of sailing to new places, and sharing stories and songs by campfire.
