Indian philosophy reflects some of the earliest thought-traditions in human history. Its foundations can be traced to ancient minds and their capacity for insatiable curiosity and constant meditation.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I've just finished reading this book, and would recommend it highly, to both Academicians, & non-academic seekers alike. In the many attempts -by scholars & non-scholars alike- to interpret & explain Indian Philosophy to the modern educated mind, most books end up complicating rather than simplifying what they're trying to explain. Perhaps this is due to them trying too hard to map Indian Philosophy onto the latest fashions in Western Philosophy, regardless of whether such a comparison is justified or not. The refreshing difference of this book is that it treats Indian philosophy aa a valid & self-contained entity, which can be explained independent of any western system, though enough analogies & comparisons are drawn throughout the book so that the reader well versed with Western Philosophy will also appreciate it. The fact that Dr Puligandla does this in a jargon free & extremely lucid way is a major reason why this book should belong in the library of anyone, individual or institution, interested in a proper explanation of Indian Philosophy in all its many branches.
