In this autobiography Constance Backhouse recalls her early days in a wind-.blown estate on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean in Patagonia where she lived with her siblings and was educated by a series of Irish and European governesses who managed to educate them so well that she was able to write this wonderful description of her life in an idyllic setting. Constance and her sisters enjoyed horses, riding, caring for all sorts of pets and sharing the latest news and gossip atop a pigsty where the "grownups" did not dare to approach. They also visited their relatives in Torrington and Ireland crossing the ocean in the modern steam boats of their time. It is an enjoyable reading for all ages and gives us a glimpse of how people used to live in Argentina and Europe at the start of and during the First World War.
