With genetics and genetic engineering receiving almost daily coverage in the media, this book is an introduction for general readers who wish to know more about a science that is changing our world. Starting with the history of genetics, from primitive breeding programmes to Mendel's Law, and moving on to a full explanation of genetics and its role in our future, this is a comprehensive survey of genetics past, present and future.
This book is presented in a very interesting style. The authors relate to many researchers and outline briefly their contributions, this can be helpful and also distracting, most of the time it is done well. The book is not a book for someone who does not have previous knowledge of genetics, including molecular biology. The explanations are short and to the point. If you have no previous background the word beginners is not really an accurate description of the book. The authors have a unique way of presenting material that is very complex in a simple understandable way (again ,you need background) This is a very good book for a wide overview of the subject. Personally for myself it was a good review, and it brought to light certain aspects of the field I had not thought clearly about. Overall an interesting book, easy to read, and can be read rapidly. It can orient you to a good understandin when you take the subject matter further in a more advanced text. Allan M. Malkasian DDS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon
