Sharon Phillips Denslow has created an amusing and witty book intended for grades 2-4. However, older readers would enjoy this book as well. As an adult, I found myself traveling back in time to my childhood as I read about J.D., his grandmother, and Georgie Lee, a surprisingly clever cow. The setting of the book is in the summertime when J.D., an eight-year-old-boy spends the summer with his grandmother and experiences one adventure after another. The loving story unfolds easily, and its tender humor will go over well with young readers. Those younger readers who are just attempting chapter books will also find this book a success. The illustrations that accompany the adventures will also be a treat for the reader.Ashley Alder
