Gertie, the Christmas Ostrich is a bad idea... ...at least for the purposes of the greedy ad executives who had created her by committee with the hopes of boosting holiday sales. Once they see "Gertie" on paper, she is quickly banished to the pile of other disastrous marketing attempts. Unexpectedly, and quite to the dismay of the board room suits, Gertie finds herself falling right off of the page and into real life. After failed attempts at finding her place in the world, Gertie asks herself, "Is there no place for an idea that is bad?" But something happens when it starts to snow and Christmas is in the air. Gertie, the Christmas Ostrich is a 32 page picture book for children ages 6-11. The story blends the nostalgic feel of a 1960s Rankin/Bass holiday special with a humorous modern day twist. Gertie overcomes what seems like a hopeless start to discover she can be one of Santa's most important helpers and "the best idea yet!"
