This volume presents the research contributions of Hans Schneider on Martin Luther and the Order of Hermits of Saint Augustine. Schneider's studies are based on a thorough review of the sources on Luther's journey to Rome. This leads not only to a new dating, but also to a different evaluation of the journey in view of the conflict concerning the policy of Johann von Staupitz and the Order observance. In addition, there are studies on the controversy over indulgences after the publication of the 95 theses, the Heidelberg Disputation of April 1518 and Luther's confrontation with Cardinal Cajetan in Augsburg in October 1518. Several contributions are also devoted to various members of Luther's order, who subsequently appeared as his followers or opponents.
