Book Overview

'Rachel Dratch . . . I know that name . . .Yes, that's right, she was hilarious on Saturday Night Live!' 'Yeah! I haven't seen her on TV in a while. So . . . what happened to her?' In Girl Walks into a Bar . . . ,\ Rachel Dratch, the brains behind everyone's favourite party pooper, Debbie Downer (cue the trombone- WAAAH WAAAJ!), tells us just where she's been. After sharing her auspicious beginnings as a child performer (for her parents in their suburban Boston living room), Rachel takes us from her college improve days to the Second City Mainstage. And then, finally, her dream job on Saturday Night Live- the sublime joy of creating a hit character, the torturous late nights in the writing room, and plenty of boozy after-parties But Rachel learns that showbiz ain't all glitz and glamour, shrimp cocktails and pinot grigio. After a short-lived part on 30 Rock, her career hits a low point and suddenly she has time for yoga, dog-sitting, learning Spanish-and the biggie- dating. Rachel reveals the joys and terrors of putting herself out there in a quest to find love and then becoming a mother when she least expected it-at the age of forty-four. She recounts the adventures of pregnancy and new motherhood once you've hurled What to Expect When You're Expecting out the window- breaking the news to her bewildered parents, the awe of her single lady friends, romance and coparenting with her baby-daddy, John, and the awkwardness of an infant-care class where the instructor kept tossing out the f-word. In Girl Walks into a Bar . . . reveals the highs and lows od struggling to make it as a comedian. But it is truly a story of second chances, managing to laugh at adversity, and realizing adversity, is actually the best thing that ever happened to you. It's a refreshing alternative to the 'happily ever after' story, full of sensitivity, candor, and plenty of comic relief, as only Rachel Dratch can tell it.

Not a complete waste of time

likable presentation of how some people are very lucky

Funny and personal, she puts it all out there!

I really enjoyed this book! If you are looking for a book that talks solely about snl this isnt for you! She touches on her career in the first couple of chapters but this is more so about her personal and love life and honestly its GOLD

Solid; good read

This book is a good read. It is a real story, not the just-written-for-publicity tripe some other celebrities have published. It is not "hysterically funny." It has funny and interesting stories in it, but mainly it is the story of Rachel Dratch's career and her current life. You will get to know her a little, and you will like her. I recommend this book.
