An illustrated rendition of the hymn asking how to praise the all-encompassing God of the sparrow, storm, rainbow, cross, and loving heart. In his popular contemporary hymn, "God of the Sparrow," Jaroslav Vajda asks us to observe the wonders of the creation around us and to consider our responses to God. Music and words included. For ages 3-7. Morehouse.
My two and a half year old daughter has this book, "God of the Spare-ee-owe," as she calls it, memorized because she asks me to read this all the time! It's become a favorite bedtime book, and it truly is wonderful. I was not familiar with this hymn, but bought it when I bought 'Earth and All Stars' which is a hymn I've long loved that Reverend McDaniels also illustrated. I was amazed the first time I read this to my little one, it seemed so deep and lovely and spiritual. One of my favorite parts is "God of the ages, God near at hand" where the illustration is of a little boy on a beach at night under the stars, and he is holding a starfish in his hand - it's easy to understand without being oversimplified. I used the part that says "...God of the empty tomb" to talk to my child about Easter. The illustrations are gorgeous and enlightening. I have bought four of his illustrated hymns books (All Things Bright and Beautiful & Now the Day is Over), and this is by far my favorite. This would be a great gift for a godchild or a baptism. I can't say enough wonderful things about this book!
