In this unique and charming cookbook, Marty Davidson takes more than 100 delicious Southern recipes that were prepared by her grandmother over a fireplace in the 1800s and adapts them for today's modern appliances. Accompanying the recipes are charming and funny tales of Grandma Grace's family and some of her favorite tips on everyday living. This cookbook will fill your belly with recipes for foods such as Watermelon Syrup, Aunt Hattie Mae's Onion Pie in Cracklin' Pastry, Grandma's Sweet Potato Pone, Milk Soup, Chicken and Cloud-Tender Dumplin's, Molasses Pull Candy, and Maudie's Reception Cookies. It will also fill your heart with joy with stories about relatives Aunt Gussie, Aunt Hattie, Cousin Viola and her bachelor son, Cousin Effy, Cousin Pearl, Aunt Maudie and her jilted daughter, and Aunt Lillie Mae's 325 pound daughter.
My favorite recipe from this book is its pastry crust. It is a very unique recipe, as are so many of the recipes in this cookbook. It turns out wonderful. This book contains sauces, dressings, syrups, and many kinds of gravies; an assortment of vegetable recipes; breads (Spoon breads and Cornbread, quick breads and yeast bread); breakfasts; meat dishes; desserts; canning recipes, including jams, preserves, relishes and pickles; and some "miscellaneous" ones, such as homemade yeast, candies and snacks, beverages, and even a love potion.

The book was just as described, but the service was spectacular. I had ordered it for a birthday the same week, with no hope of getting it in time. But it arrived -- with just regular shipping. Many, many thanks.
Like finding your grandma's recipes

It's rare to find a cookbook where every recipe is a winner and a keeper. Even the best books seem to have one or two clunkers that just don't make it to the table. Grandma Grace's is not one of those books. Every single recipe is different and tasty, and the historical version alongside the modern adaptation gives it a real authenticity. There are some really interesting new dishes, like grape catsup, and some favorites that are just right, like pickled peaches. I also appreciate the fact that the canning recipes are in 2-3 pint quantities, allowing you to try the recipe without stocking your larder for the next millenium.
