An updated guide to the Graduate Record Examination offers an online study program, progress reports, quizzes, and a practice test with complete explanations of the questions and provides time-tested... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book was encouraging and comprehensive. I highly recommend it. You probably won't work through the whole book thoroughly unless you have three months to prepare but it is nice to have all of these resources at your fingertips even if you only have a month to prepare. The numerous practice tests help you to realize that it is difficult to finish the quantitative section and so you have to figure out how to deal with that. I also recommend Kaplan's Flipomatic book for Vocab and something by Barron's to get a different point of view from Kaplan.
Notes on the mobile software included

The main reason that I chose this book over other GRE prep books was the advertised mobile resource tools. However, there were no specifics offered anywhere about what the tools were or what mobile devices they were compatible with. I had a PocketPC, so I assumed they would work with it. I was wrong. The only mobile tool included is a 200-word vocabulary flashcard set for Palm OS devices. It's very easy to use, now that I've bought a Palm OS device (I had been planning to upgrade anyway). One other note, the flashcard set does not come on the enclosed CD. You must first register at their website using the book's serial number before you can download it. Beware, from the day you register, you only have 6 months to use the online resources (additional tests and material). If you buy the book used, someone may have already registered using the serial number. Each book's serial number may only be used once. Other than the above caveats, the book is a fine resource.
Works

This book helped me score 800 and 760 on verbal and quantitative respectively (still waiting for the analytical score). In less than a month, you can brush up on all your skills and check your progress using the practice tests. The CD is useful with its 3 full length computer adaptive tests. The associated internet account gives more tips and help you plan your studies and track your scores. The best thing about the Kaplan program is that you get detailed explanations on EVERY question in the book and the CD - as opposed to Princeton Review which only gives the right answer and focusses on identifying it through shortcuts and elimination.
The best resource

I only had a few weeks to study for the GRE and the Premier program, 2006 edition, was the best resource. It helped in all three catergories and gave useful examples. The accompanying CD was also a great tool. It gave great practice tests that helped me prepare for the actual test. This is a MUST if you have a time constraint.
Excellent Review

This book was a great help for test strategies and also review. The overall vocab and math reviews in the back of the book were great! If you are good in math, you should def. study the level three math in the back because you will def. get those types of questions on the GRE's. The problems were a good indicator of the difficulty of the problems on the actual exam.
