Great Big Schoolhouse is lovingly remembered by generations of American children whose first day at school was undoubtedly made easier by Scarry's warm, friendly, and comforting classroom. Huckle's life changes forever as he joins his classmates on the school bus; meets Miss Honey, his sympathetic teacher; and learns the alphabet, new vocabulary, numbers, the days of the week, and the hours of the day. Of course, there's recess, show and tell, and a few unexpected adventures, too Young readers are welcomed in, as they're asked to help some of Huckle's friends answer Miss Honey's questions.Beautifully produced, this is the perfect gift for any child approaching school age--and the flip side of the dust jacket hides a fun surprise: a Richard Scarry A-Z wall poster.
I recently purchased this book for my daughter Zoe. Paging through the colorfully illustrated pages I was immediatly trasported back in time to my own childhood in the seventies, and remembered just how much of a favourite this book was to me when I had it as child. This book is really lots of fun to read and learn for children and I hope Zoe will one day remember it as fondly as I do.

It is so much fun to read books to your children that you loved as a child and to see them get as much entertainment out of as you did and the greatest part is you still enjoy it.

My three children, who are now grown with children of their own, loved this book. They delighted in pointing out things that they recognized and never tired of reading it. We still have books from when they were small, but this one fell apart from constant use. I've been looking for this book now for my grandchildren to enjoy. Richard Scarry books should never be out of publication.
Outstanding

I wish that Golden books would put Scarry's fine works on Publish on Demand, then they would see that we love all of his works, not just the recent ones. I am busy trying to repair my 1970 copy of this book so that my children can enjoy it as much as I did.
