The film Grindhouse gleefully resurrects the theatrical experience of watching back-to-back exploitation movies. Written and directed by two of the genre's most hard-core and best-known fans, the film consists of two short features -- one from Quentin Tarantino and the other by Robert Rodriguez -- as well as a series of lurid trailers for non-existent movies. In the book Grindhouse: The Sleaze-filled Saga of an Exploitation Double Feature, Tarantino and Rodriguez chronicle the film's production from page to screen and everything in between. Featured are Rodriguez's and Tarantino's original screenplays in their entirety, interviews with key cast and crew members, and over 300 photographs and illustrations, including never-before-seen artwork and concept designs. An exhaustive history of exploitation films, complete with full-color reproductions of classic one-sheets from the directors' private collections, enhances the reader's appreciation of this tasteless, yet highly entertaining and influential genre.
i knew nothing of grindhouse and trash movies until i watched it. I can call myself a fan of death proof and planet terror and if you liked the films buy this book. perfect cover ( hardcover), details of the shooting , never before seen photos , behind the scenes photos etc. Lovely book, one of the highlights of my library i can even say next to shakespeare and silmarilion ... .

Good 'special features' for fans more than film-makers

I really enjoyed the RR/QT Grindhouse release, so after getting the special editions of both films (the extra disc best buy ones in a tin case!), I just had to grab this book too. The book reads like the DVDs' special bonus features play. Interviews with cast and crew, nice on-set color photos, and some 'promo-art' pages (the kind you want to tear out and put on your wall) make up the book with the inclusion of Planet Terror and Machete screenplays. Death Proof, Thanksgiving, and Machete each have their own sections; also a RR/QT POV exploitation film experience discussion is included. Each film has a breakdown of Stunts, Special Effects, and the main players. The layout fits with the films' atmosphere, with psuedo-worn pages and nice graphics. The book is manufactured well, sturdy binding with a nice durable semi-matte hardcover. So for the film's fans who want a little extra bonus features this is a good buy. There is some film-making insight, but this is more of a glimpse, and some of it is in video form on the DVDs. It supports the involved, and since its box-office revenue was less than desired, I loved these films and the idea behind their conception and would love more of them. So please, if you love these films, buy this book, buy the DVDs, and hey even push your local niche-theaters to rerun Grindhouse come halloween! -SOB

Wow, I'm full. They threw in everything but the kitchen sink into this one! Features the full Planet Terror script--along with the "Machete" script/making of. Bonus feature has Eli Roth talking about his trailer along with the making of/script. Tons of hot photos featuring the stars, and the actual "Grindhouse" posters. Tons of lobby card pics are here as well. This is a great addition to your library. I love this thing!!!!
Behind the scenes packs a wallop

Shows how hard folks have to work to put their vision on film. The book details the hugh support network Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino had in putting out their "Grindhouse" experience. There are tons of interviews and many full page pictures detailing how certain things were accomplished in the back to back movies, "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof." Tarantino has a great introduction to the grindhouse movie theaters (drive ins were mentioned as well) experiences in the 70s and early 80s. I am quite satisfied with this coffee table sized, behind the scenes look.
