I Love Learning about America

I loved Hancock County (images of America)! The book is a great read and the pictures are extremely fun to check out. Local history can be a bit of a sticky wicket, the trick is to find the universal in the local. This book succeeds. If you are from this area and even slightly interested in history, buy this book. But I'm not from Hancock County and don't know much about this area, but I couldn't help but to see my great-great and great grandparents reflected in the pottery and steel workers reflected in this book. Sure, my family weren't pottery workers, but who among us didn't have laborours among our parent's parents or parent's parent's parents? Also, seeing the slow progress of the countryside from empty to industrial revolution chic was quite eye opening. It's important, though not always fun, to learn about history. This book makes it fun. Too often, I read history without really knowing what anything looked like. This book gives the flavor of the recent past.
