At last, a canine first aid book that helps you make the right decisions-fast. It's like having a veterinarian on call. Do you need to call your vet? What should you do until you can get your dog to the hospital? If veterinarian assistance is not required, how do you handle the illness or injury? It's all here, in Hands-On Dog Care. Three easy-to-use sections work together to give you all the tools you'll need to handle everything from kennel cough to lack of appetite. Part I: In action plans, you'll be asked a series of questions based on symptoms you observe, and given specific instructions based on your answers. Part II: From Part 1, you'll be referred to this section, where you'll get visual, step-by-step instructions for how to perform the first-aid skills necessary to help your dog until you can get him to the vet, or as detailed home treatment instructions. Part III: In the Glossary, you'll find detailed descriptions of conditions and terms used in Parts I and II.
This book has saved me a minimum of 6 trips to the vet. The most recent was last night, when a visiting dog was showing signs of what I feared might be bloat. It wasn't, and I was able to figure that out based on the information in this book. Every dog owner, not matter how experienced, will benefit from having this book close at hand. I plan to send a copy home with every puppy I breed.
