A good fireside read, but not a scientific documentary
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
This is a light compilation of various paranormal stories and folklore with some connection to Minnesota, including ghost stories but also accounts involving bigfoot, wendigos, UFO's, crop circles, cattle mutilations, and other elements of the unexplained, along with threads of local history, crime, and culture. Most of the material is second-hand, coming from other books and/or sources, however the author also has some interesting new material including firsthand reports or legends from his family folklore. This isn't a scientific documentary, and there are some details that are a bit shaky in various sections, as another reviewer has pointed out. However, it's a nice fireside read which I enjoyed, particularly with the evocative illustrations throughout. It's also a good primer regarding the broad contour of paranormal phenomena reported in Minnesota, from which the interested reader may follow the bibliography to other sources for further study.
A tour of supernatural mysteries
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
Compiled and organized by Minnesota resident Hugh Bishop, "Haunted Minnesota: Ghostly Tales and Spirited Stories" offers the reader a tour of supernatural mysteries and ghost stories set in the upper Midwestern state of Minnesota. The work of meticulous historical research and including first-person interviews of those who hunt and exorcize ghosts (or simply help them to their final resting place), "Haunted Minnesota" includes accounts involving homes, historic buildings, work places, and wild woods. Also very highly recommended as additions to personal and community library Metaphysical Studies reference collections and reading lists are three additional titles from Lake Superior Port Cities: Hugh Bishop's "Haunted Lake Superior" (094233555X); and Frederick Stonehouse's "Haunted Lakes" (0942235304) and "Haunted Lakes II" (0942235398).
