Heart of the Holy Family: A Manual of Prayer by St. John Eudes

In December 2016, Pope Francis accelerated a process to proclaim St. John Eudes a Doctor of the Church. In a few years he may be christened "Doctor Cordis" (the Doctor of the Heart), using the title given him by Pope St. Pius X: "the Father, Doctor, and Apostle of Devotion to the Hearts of Jesus & Mary."

This series is an introduction to his spirituality, widely available in English for virtually the first time.

This manual of prayers has been used by bishops, seminary professors, missionaries, and laity from all walks of life to deepen their relationship with God. Within the book, you will find litanies, written to be prayed in two voices alternating like a heartbeat. You will find passages from scripture, rearranged into poetry that can make your heart sing.

Prayers include:

- Ave Joseph:
singing praise of Joseph's humanity, glorified by contact with the Incarnation: "...blessed is your chest where the son of God so sweetly slept" (p.8)

- Ave Maria, Filia Dei Patris:
contemplating Mary in the embrace of the Trinity: "...daughter of the Father, mother of the Son, and spouse of the Holy Spirit." (p.7)

- Eudist Grace before Meals:
uniting our meals to those shared by Jesus during His life, asking that "...every bite be an act of praise and worship to our Heavenly Father" (p.15)
