Madness and murder rip through the suspense novel by the bestselling author Catherine Coulter. FBI Agent Dillion Savich is on a challenging case involving the kidnapping of two teenage boys when trouble boils up in his personal life. His younger sister Lily has crashed her car into a redwood in California's Hemlock Bay. Is it another suicide attempt, the second since the loss of her young daughter some seven months before? Savich and Sherlock discover that four of Lily's paintings, left to her by their very famous grandmother, artist Sarah Elliot, now worth millions, are at the heart of an intricate conspiracy. Lily and art broker Simon Russo are thrust into ever widening circles of danger that radiate from a notorious collector's locked room. Dillion Savich and his sister Lily both have to face their worst fears to survive.
This is very interesting and fast moving story. I really love this book. I slow down right about now, because I hate for it to end.
10/28 -- Just finished the book. Savich & Sherlock are the best. You will not believe the ending! I never saw it coming.
Not to be missed

Admittedly, I'm a Coulter Fan and this book in the FBI series adds still another layer to the continuing saga of Sherlock & Savich. The whole cast of characters comes alive in this story of Savich's sister. And, of course, justice prevails. This was the only one of the FBI series that I hadn't read - because I couldn't find it. And in retrospect, by missing it I missed part of the layering of stories. A good excuse to re-read the stories. There is just the right amount of tension, humor and romance to entertain anyone who likes to read.

I have really enjoyed the the FBI thrillers. Dillon Savich and Sherlock have been through a lot together and it keeps getting better.
Oops. I meant to give 4 stars.

Despite the negative criticism from the others, I found this book very interesting. Catherine Coulter is a great storyteller and she did a great job with Hemlock Bay.
A very enjoyable read

The other reviews tell you all you need to know about the plot. Here's why I liked it. The author is a leading writer in two genres, the other being romance. I found the plot (actually, plots as there are two, a primary and secondary) interesting. I found the character development outstanding. I tend to like books where the characters evolve in their relationship to each other and their careers (Faye Kellerman's Decker/Lazarus series, JA Jance's two detective series, Sandford's Davenport, any of the WEB Griffin series and many others). Here, Coulter has taken her two main characters, Savich and Sherlock and added a layer to their complexity. She has used her romance skills to bring out the beginnings of a romance between other characters in the book; perhaps we'll see them again, perhaps not.I'm looking forward to her next work.By the way, if you liked this book but would have preferred a stronger dose of romance, try Julie Garwood's Heartbreaker. I'm not usually a Romance fan, but my wife started playing it in the car one afternoon and I got hooked.
Terrific Suspense

FBI agent Dillon Savich and his wife, fellow agent Lacey Sherlock, are closing in on serial killers, Tommy and Timmy or "Tammy" Tuttle. While Tommy is killed and "Tammy" is apprehended, Tammy's almost supernatural abilities to elude police come to light when she escapes custody. Meanwhile, Savich's sister Lily is hospitalized in California presumably after a failed suicide attempt. When Savich and Sherlock arrive in California, their suspicions turn to Lily's husband and in-laws, the Frasiers. The Frasiers have much to gain if Lily is out of the picture leaving behind her grandmother's valuable paintings. But Savich's college friend and art dealer, Simon Russo, discovers that the paintings on loan to the local California museum aren't exactly what they seem, and suddenly both Lily's and Simon's lives are in grave danger. HEMLOCK BAY is a true winner, full of nail-biting suspense and captivating intrigue. In Lily, Catherine Coulter has given the reader one tough cookie of a heroine, who has enough backbone to withstand even the most deadly situations thrown her way. And, as in Ms. Coulter's previous works, Savich and Sherlock are perfect as secondary characters, FBI agents with both guts and class. A MUST READ!
