I was assigned this book for an introductory literature class and I have to admit that I was totally shocked, shocked in the way the most powerful literature, I imagine, has always shocked. Needless to say, I loved every page of it, and mostly because I have never read anything so honest and so real. This book spoke to me, and that doesn't happen often. I've turned all my friends onto it.

yuknavitch's words on the page are blood on a canvas. her mouths challenge & unnerve the reader, like seconds before a fight, you cannot imagine the ropes and corners to come--language in the form of an operatic violence that leaves you wanting more, tenderly. her other mouths is an exceptional invention with more heart than most can handle.

lidia blows up language. bold, raw to the bone. i am blown away. her other mouths is an eruption of passion, drive and cuts you deeply with tender frankness and harsh truths. this is the best fiction: that which moves.
