Book Overview

Woman-to-woman advice on identifying--and dumping--bad news guys

No one is immune when it comes to destructive relationships. Even smart women can be gaslighted by men who appear supportive in public but are belittling in private, after which, worse yet, they assert that you're upset for no reason, that you're simply imagining the verbal abuse and incremental death of your spirit. In He's Just No Good for You, best-selling author Beth Wilson, with psychologist Dr. Maureen Hannah, zeroes in on the heart of the matter--women's well-being and self-worth--and sets forth a clear vision of just what a healthy relationship looks like. She also instructs women of all ages on installing "early detection" warning systems in their brains. As for those women already enmeshed in a destructive relationship, this book, with its reassuring, empowering style, can assist in identifying the problem, deciding whether to leave or to stay, and then acting on that decision.

Most books about bad relationships focus on compatibility or domestic violence. He's Just No Good for You is for all women who have found themselves wondering if the "great" guy others see at their side is in fact not so great--or worse. Wilson explores the anatomy of a destructive relationship and provides clear profiles of bad news individuals. And she shows women how they can move beyond the grasp of a harmful relationship by taking a candid look at their priorities, their circumstances, and themselves.

Drawing on the wisdom and insight Wilson has long utilized in her thriving private practice, and building on her previous best-selling books, along with Dr. Hannah's professional expertise, He's Just No Good for You offers women a new path. Women want more out of relationships--and this book shows them that they can have it.

Very Helpful

This book has helped me bring some clarity to a relationship that recently ended, but made me feel crazy during and after it. It's nice to know I'm not alone, and the book is an easy read that does not get boring at all. At times when I'm feeling down about my experience, I'll re read a chapter or 2 to get back into reality of what it was. I do recommend this book for anyone who is in an unhappy relationship (but maybe you can't pinpoint why), it will help.

Applicable for all relationships

While I am currently in a good relationship (thankfully), I found this book intriguing and very informative. It validated past suspicions and gave me insight into why I have chosen the life partner I have. The author's clear, no-nonsense and engaging style kept me interested while making the information approachable (so many "help you" books are tedious and repetitive -- not this one!). But most interesting to me was how the book's information applied to my relationships with other women as friends. I found similarities not just with men I have dated, but also in the unhealthy friend relationships I have experienced (I have learned from the author that emotional abuse is abuse whether from a "friend" or lover). It has brought me a clarity in recognizing destructive behavior no matter what the guise: man, woman, lover or friend. I recommend this book to anyone who is wondering about whether that lover or friend isn't all that they seem to be. Don't deny your gut feelings -- read this book and find out!

Finally, real help!

This is an empowering book that gets to the heart of why many women do not feel worthy of happiness and why it really is our birthright. Like the good friend who sees the best in us, this book is a companion for anyone who is questioning their relationship or themselves. I am grateful for the true guidance.

Solid advice

Unlike "Mark the Man," I do not belive that women who are in a destructive relationship should be blamed for "picking" the man. After all, many people (not just men!) don't show their true colors until much later in a relationship--which is exactly WHY this book is so valuable--it helps women recognize the warning signs that they are involved with a man who is, like the title says, just no good for them. For women who need help and answers and don't know where to turn, this book is a valuable resource.
