A perenial classic!

For any railroad or history buff, this book is the BOMB, especially if you live in San Francisco or middle CA! MANY pictures of how near the turn-of-the-century, some far-sighted engineers and planners financed and developed a water system to provide for a major city with a ONE HUNDRED YEAR PLAN for future expansion!!??? (Think about that....public project, 100 year scope...!) Train pictures, historic pictures, railroad history. Worth any price. Was out of print for a while but now is back. Funny note....There has been a cadre or environmentalist who want to completely dismantle this amazing project to "reclaim" the Hetch Hetchy watershed and put San Francisco back into the water stone age for aesthetic reasons. Read this book and you will see the fallacy of this proposition!

A superb summary with great pics of the building of Hetch-hetchy dam and railroad and water system to the city. A must buy if you have been to camp Mather.Note this is later edition--maybe the printing of pics is better?
