Vibrates with encouragement for women who want to explore and enjoy the world of books Gladys Hunt, long-time advocate of reading and author of the cherished Honey for a Child's Heart, has written this new book for busy women who want a wider worldview and stimulus for intellectual and emotional growth. Honey for a Woman's Heart explores: * The wonder of words, language, and reading * What good books offer thoughtful readers * What makes a good book * The value of reading fiction * Best books in genres of fiction, nonfiction, spirituality, and poetry * How to enjoy the best of books: the Bible * The pleasure of sharing books with others * Something for everyone, no matter what age or reading experience * Recommendations for over 500 books to enjoy Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24
If you are like me and love to read, but have found that at times you pick up a book and then get taken by surprise because you realize the book has content that you realize it isn't wise to set before your eyes and mind, then this is a wonderful book for you to get. Gladys Hunt first talks about reading itself--why women do read and why it's important for us to read! It was refreshing, convicting, and encouraging to me. My husband is always encouraging me to read more--rather than watch television =) Then she talks about the different genres of fiction and the authors that are worth reading. Scattered throughout the book, she has lists of books submitted by acquaintances and friends of hers. I think that a lot of Christian women stick to Christian inspirational fiction because it is lighthearted and they feel they can trust what the book is going to be about and that it's going to have a happy ending. But, Gladys Hunt has suggestions for all sorts of books that are worth reading--and I would say even important to read because they help us see outside of ourselves and understand the world better. I highly recommend this book! The other two books in the series: Honey for a Teen's Heart, and Honey for a Child's Heart are also very worthy of reading. She is not extreme in her views and takes a very balanced protective, but not sheltering view of what children and teens should and should not read.

Both myself and my husband have enjoyed this book and "Honey for a Child's Heart". We have not yet read "Honey for a Teen's Heart", but it is on the shelf waiting for us when we are ready, and our daughter is closer to her teen years. The descriptions of the books she recommends are great for deciding if the book is something you might be interested in, yet she and her friends, do not ruin the stories for you. This is a great book, highly recommended for Christian families, but anyone can benefit from the awesome books on her lists. Her encourangement to make reading a wonderful manner in which to connect with those you love, is of great importance more now than ever. Please write, "Honey for a Man's Heart"!! Thankfully, many of the women's book recommendations are suitable for a man as well.
