Good for English Style

This was a pretty decent, informative guide to horse care and English-style riding and shows, but not much for Western-style riding and shows. It also doesn't even mention Saddle-seat-style (Though, the Saddlebred horse is mentioned.) and Austrailian-style (The Whaler horse is mentioned also). I know about most of these styles and just wish others would have the chance to learn about little known styles. If you intend on riding English-style or need information on caring for a horse, this is your kind of book. I might even use it as help to train my Tennessee Walking Horse, Ratt (This breed is shown in every style.) to do English-themed styles like jumping and simple dressage which are mentioned in this book.

As informative as it is fascinating

Sandy Ransford's Kingfisher Riding Club Horses & Ponies is a superbly illustrated introduction for young readers to horses and ponies which is as informative as it is fascinating. Youngsters new to the animals are shown all aspects on approaching, caring for, exercises, breeding, and riding the equine companions. For more experienced young riders there is a wealth of practical and insightful information on pony shows, dressage and eventing. For those who own or have access to a horse or pony (and for those who dream of having their own mount one day), then Kingfisher Riding Club Horses & Ponies is very essential and highly entertaining reading.

I love this little book. It's got tons of pictures and a cute little drawing in the top right corner of every page. It covers breeds such as the Shire, Suffolk Punch, Cleveland Bay, Holsteiner, Arabian, Appaloosa, Dartmoor, and Falabella. I highly recomend this colorful easy to read book to all children who love horses. This book includes an index of breeds and a height chart. The pictures are really nice as well.
