A House Is Not A Home Is a Book That Touches The Third Grade Heart
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 17 years ago
House Is Not a Home is book that my class loved. They actually applauded at the end and that is not a common occurence. Bossy Badger tries to direct the other animals in the building of a joint home. No one's contribution is up to badger's standards. He frustrates and alienates everyone. They go off and build their own crooked little house. They live together and enjoy it. Badger lives alone in his perfect house. As he watches at a distance, he comes to realizes his error. Badger mends his way and builds a sled as an apology. The book ends with them enjoying their sled. It helps the bossy child to realize the need to mend their ways. It shows how everyone needs to have their abilities and effort to be appreciated. That everything does not need to be perfect. A home is a place where people love and respect each other. The house is but a shell. Third graders enjoyed this story and later shared what made their homes special and not just a house.
