First of all, it is not easy to become a Lifeguard. You have to learn / study / be tested on 300+ pages of material - a Lifeguard test and a CPR test plus the swim test. It's mentally and physically demanding training (At least it was for me.) One of the ways I made it through was to write about it. So this is my poetical version of Lifeguard training so don't use this to study by if you are taking Lifeguard training I am very proud to be a certified Lifeguard as I absolutely love the water. Am I a certified Lifeguard? I can proudly say - "Yes, I am " Sample poem: Step Seven: Swimming for Fitness To execute a water based rescue you must have adequate strength and endurance to increase endurance you must commit to regular consistent workouts swim 300 yards without stopping at first build up to a competitive mile 1650 yards or 66 lengths of the pool focus on the intensity of your swim by doing intervals same distance same time interval each done at the same high level of effort rest periods in-between the length depending on the speed of the swim the short rest period keeps the heart rate within the target range without dropping to al resting heart rate. Interval training is the best method towards developing speed and endurance. Copyright LB Sedlacek 2018
