Take kids on a journey far north where huge elk roam and Vikings once ruled. Norway is a land of adventure and beauty with some of the world's oldest wooden buildings and one of Europe's strongest economies. Young readers will learn that Norway still has a king and queen and that some of its native people live with herds of reindeer in the Land of the Midnight Sun, above the Arctic Circle, where the sun can shine 24 hours a day in the winter. From trolls to stavkirkes to Norway's lovely traditional costume, the bunad, students will be enchanted as they draw Norway's sights and symbols.
I purchased this book for my children to familiarize them with Norway prior to the arrival of our Norwegian nanny. They loved the book, as it not only taught them about the country, but also allowed them the opportunity to explore the subject through art. Immediately, they drew the traditional costumes, currency, various landmarks and flora & fauna. It has been a month and the book still has their interest & attention. They continue to go back and re-read it and cross reference it and draw pictures. Our children are very strong readers and avid artists at age 7, so this book was ideal for them. If your young child is not a strong reader, it may be too advanced for them. I would say the age range is probably from 9 to teenage, though even as an adult, I learned a great deal from this book.
