Meticulously outlining an arsenal of cutting-edge tools and strategies tied to predicting performance and a passion for excellence, David Snyder has developed what may be a paradigm shift in our understanding of the way high-performing individuals can be identified, selected, and professionally coached. Drawing on Snyder's interviews with a team of performance and hiring experts nationwide, How to Hire a Champion will help all leaders to build: -- A better model and process for selecting and retaining high-performing individuals. -- Stronger teams and a customer-centered, results-driven culture. -- A self-directed culture of greatness where top performers and top managers in all departments help and inspire each other.
Every HR executive and retained executive recruiter has heard a client say of a finalist candidate, "We're not there yet" This usually means "this person fits the bill on paper, but we not going forward to make a hire." Sometimes "we're not there yet," means, we thought we knew what we wanted, but now that we see it, we don't. In the very worst cases "we're not there yet," means, go find more people exactly like this one (who we just decided not to hire.) How does one fix this problem and hire a champion for this job? How to Hire a Champion is about uncovering all of the information that will help you to recognize a champion and go after him or her. If you have ever launched a search for a "C" level executive, you know that a senior candidate pool will be full of people with great resumes. Many senior level job descriptions, with their lists of skills and experience muddy the waters and obscure the company's priorities. How to Hire a Champion helps an executive or a hiring team define what a company is after and put candidates through truly helpful screening. I smiled all the way through this book. The process presented will get you a long way toward hiring a champion and it may have your hiring team cheering.

David Snyder has written a superb book on how to hire the right people for your organization. It is filled with helpful strategies and tools that you can use to explore who a person really is and determine if they will fit your needs and those of your organization. Unlike other approaches which frequently just skim the surface, David Snyder shows you how to dig below the surface to find out whether a candidate is a person of character or simply a chameleon who changes color according to which way the wind is blowing. Not only does he provide valuable strategies for hiring champions, but he also explains what organizations need to do to attract champions because true champions want to work for championship organizations. Lastly, one of the best things about this book is that it is easy to read and is filled with entertaining examples. David Snyder has a comfortable writing style that makes you feel as if he is sitting across the table from you personally explaining the concepts to you.

I loved this book so much I read it twice....it is full of great insight and advice for any manager in the hiring capacity. David has tapped into something we have all felt, but been unable to quantify. Hiring and retaining talent must be a top priority for any company and any executive wanting to differentiate themselves from their competition. It is a must read for today's hiring manager and will become a handbook for hiring long into the future!

I love this book! I'm constantly working with my clients trying to get them to stop hiring the skills they need and start looking for the person who fits the company culture. David Snyder's book looks at the hiring process from several practical but often overlooked perspectives. He shows the reader how to use character, integrity, culture and heart as measures of the person and his appropriateness for the open position. David teaches several methods, tools, and assessments you can use to improve your success in hiring a champion. The book helps you improve your teams as well as improve your hiring. He touches on several new theories on hiring and people assessment, like emotional intelligence. I can't say I didn't know all the components David discusses, but I have never seen them all connected in an easy to understand way with an accompanying process that works. I found the book an excellent reference and a powerful guidebook for me and my clients. Bob De Contreras, Managing Partner, Paladin and Associates, Apex, North Carolina.

David Snyder previously wrote "How to Mind Read Your Customers," an insightful approach to the segmentation of one's personal sales market. He has now gone on to write "How to Hire A Champion," a structured method that enables the assessment of individuals who are candidates for high level, critical positions. David combines unique insights into the professional mind with readily usable analysis techniques that combine the art and science of human resourcing at personnel strata that have ramifying impact on organizations. David uses his humorous and lucid writing style to convey not only the mechanics of candidate assessment but also the overarching social value of properly matching talent with position. It is an important read for all human resource professionals, CEOs and students of the migration of talented people through the ranks of businesses at large.
