AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER "Wildly entertaining."-The New York Times "Ingenious."-The Washington PostNew York Times bestselling author Grady Hendrix takes on the haunted house in a thrilling new novel that explores the way your past--and your family--can haunt you like nothing else. When Louise finds out her parents have died, she dreads going home. She doesn't want to leave her daughter with her ex and fly to Charleston. She doesn't want to deal with her family home, stuffed to the rafters with the remnants of her father's academic career and her mother's lifelong obsession with puppets and dolls. She doesn't want to learn how to live without the two people who knew and loved her best in the world. Most of all, she doesn't want to deal with her brother, Mark, who never left their hometown, gets fired from one job after another, and resents her success. Unfortunately, she'll need his help to get the house ready for sale because it'll take more than some new paint on the walls and clearing out a lifetime of memories to get this place on the market. But some houses don't want to be sold, and their home has other plans for both of them... Like his novels The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires and The Final Girl Support Group, How to Sell a Haunted House is classic Hendrix: equal parts heartfelt and terrifying--a gripping new read from "the horror master" (USA Today).
Grady Hendrix has a gift for taking concepts that sound hilarious (and are pretty funny--until they aren't) and making them legitimately scary. This book does that, while also being a compelling exploration of grief, family ties, and the dangers of leaving things unsaid. This book was an emotional journey and hard to put down.
Long Live Pupkin!

This book had my attention from the beginning and I just wanted to skip work and life to sit and read and finish it. First, a very cool touch - the chapters are set out in the stages of grief which the main characters are going through with the loss of their parents. (Grady Hendrix books always have this cool little touches that just make them so special!)
The story opens up, blooms and reveals family secrets in a well weaves order that was really engrosses you into the story and you kind of discover the truth with the characters.
I love all dolls and creepy puppets so the fact that this novel has puppet and doll characters was really up my alley. After finishing this book, I really want to make my own Pupkin puppet. Which pretty much is the last thing a normal person would want after finishing this book. (And it IS PUPKIN, not Punkin - like I keep seeing in other reviews!)
I enjoyed the sibling relationship between Louise and Mark and how it goes back and forth because it was very realistic and super funny in places.
Give this amazing book a chance, once you get more of the background story, you’ll be hooked!
Horror Thriller

This is a Magical Realism/Fantasy Horror Thriller. This book was so good. I do not read a ton of Horror, but I love Grady Hendrix books which is why I picked this book up. I have to say you should not read this book right before you go to bed. This book really got my heart going and scared me. I really loved the storyline, and the thriller part was really good as well. I loved getting to know the characters, but the story itself took a life of its own in this book. The ending of this book was so great, and I loved how it ended. This book was a great read. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
