Hush! tells the story of a baby crying and its extended family busies itself to get their house ready for a storm. One brings in the wash, one gathers in the sheep, one closes the shutters, one builds the fire, etc.--all the while, another family member holds the crying baby. At the end, as the storm rages outdoors, the loving family (including grandma and grandpa, brother and sister, father and mother) gathers around the cradle where baby is finally sleeping. It's told in verse with the refrain of "Hush!" throughout. It's a wonderful "new baby" gift because of the baby on the cover and a great toddler book. My son loves the rhyme and repetition and always says the last line with me: "the family gathers close around/as baby sleeps at home."
