Though an old book (and apparently out of print), this is still an important book for the library of any reader who wonders about the past and future of medicine. The first chapter pulls you right in, as it provides a horrific overview of The Union Carbide factory and the tragic death toll in Northern India. The rest of the book follows the template provided in the first chapter where it offers a series of real world stories and case studies where science and medicine has put profit before people, with the outcome resulting in the loss of lives. It's too bad that this book is out of print. As we re-enter the age of Stem Cell Research, books like this one will be crucial in informing us all about the dubious promises made by our mavericks of medicine.
