I love Nick Bland's illustrations and this book is another great one. The images are very similar in style to A Monster Wrote Me A Letter, with great pen and ink style drawings mostly, 7 in gray scale with just a few splashes of color. It is the story of Matilda Rose, a young cow who loves to give kisses. Then one day she wakes up and cannot find her kisses. It is the story of her spending the day looking for her kisses. She looks around her home, in the yard and even at the store. Will she find her kisses in time for her father to arrive home from his trip? Read and find out. This is both a well-written and wonderfully illustrated book.

Utterly gorgeous - whimsical and my kids love it

This is an utterly gorgeous book. It is a slight variation on the theme of "how much do I love you" but it is about kisses. Matlida Rose is a calf whimsically illustrated in sort of charcoal sketch with colour highlights. The illustrations are kind of Norman Rockwell in their dress and stance - My girls spend a long time looking at the pages, they are really enchanted by the pictures. Matilda rose has a friend called Lambkin and there is a little yellow chick in the pictures too (unnamed). This is about Matilda Rose who wakes up one morning with all her kisses gone - and poppa is coming to stay. It is about love and affection and it is very sweet. The illustration at the Airport is fabulous. Loved it!

This is a lovely story that I happened to find today, just before storytime, where I read new books to young children at a bookstore. It was adorable and comforting because it had a happy ending that made the children smile. It also just so happens, sadly, that the world has just recently lost a wonderful young actor, Heath Ledger, and I hesitated when I started to read, because he left behind a daughter, 2 years old, also named Matilda Rose. Hopefully her daddy will come to her in her dreams and bring her his kisses whenever she longs for them. A wonderful book to add to a child's collection as it offeres a happy, secure feeling in the end. Love and Kisses to Matilda Rose.
