I'm a third grade teacher and I've been reading Steven Kellogg's tall tales to my class throughout the school year. My class absolutely loves his books and recently I read "I Was Born About 10,000 Years Ago" as a way to get my kids to write their own tall tales. This book, unlike other tall tales, isn't about one exaggerated hero, but about five kids who my class can relate to. It made the tall tales more accessable and more meaningful because they could create their own in just a sentence or two like the kids in the book. It turned out to be a wonderful lesson.

My children and I thoroughly enjoyed the whimsical adventure through time that this beautifully illustrated book took them on. Steven Kellogg does a marvelous job of retelling this tall tale by using rhyming text. Combined with pieces of history, references to stories in the bible, and adding bits from other known tall tales, this book is one wild and crazy adventure after another. This book encourages children to want to use and develop their imagination. At the back of the book there is a musical score which the story could even be sung to.
